Colour Drones are group meditations for woodwind and brass players, an exploration in musical colour. Players are of varying skill level, but able to play long tones -  pitches held for long duration. This is a commonly used device for building embouchure and learning to control overtone production. If a pitch were white light, then the act of practicing long tones allows a player to employ the embouchure as a prism, separate out various hues of the overtone series. While all are playing in the same space and pitch together, focusing one’s attention on worlds contained within the smallest variation in sound-producing muscle movement results in a meditative state for individual players. So this project is group meditation in the field of colour. Pitches are played for approximately 45 minutes. Breaths and rests can be taken as needed.
